Achill Island, Ireland – October 18, 2012: The world’s best kite surfers are on standby for the 3rd stop of the 2012 KSP World Championship Tour, the Aer Lingus Kite Surf Pro, running from October 19 – 29, 2012. 36 riders from 19 countries have come together on Achill Island and are gearing up to face the frigid Atlantic waters on Ireland’s rugged west coast.
Patri McLaughlin (HI, North), current KSP world number one following his breakout victory at One Eye, looks to retain his tour lead in the cold surf of Ireland. Female frontrunner Ninja Bichler (GER, North) also continues her 2012 world championship campaign following her victory at One Eye in September.
Joining the KSP tour riders will be local wildcards Ryan Coote and Keith McGewon. KSP tour rider Grant “Twig” Baker (RSA, Cabrinha) was forced to pull out of the competition at the last minute due to a shoulder injury and will be replaced by local Irish rider Mark Barry. The local female wildcard will be Jade O’Conner. Suzanne Kuiper (NED, F-One) will replace Ainhoa Garcia (ESP) due to her last minute drop out and tour rider Marie Gautron sustained a broken foot just last week and passes her spot on to Lilian Malschert (NED).
The unique mobile format of the Aer Lingus Kite Surf Pro will be a very exciting one, capable of showcasing each day’s action at the best possible wind and wave locations. Rider’s and crew will be based out of the Pure Magic Lodge on Achill Island, within perfect striking distance of a handful of high-quality spots.
